CLAIMS ARE MADE THAT THE TAJ IS SINKING TOWARDS THE RIVER:
Were the architects of the Taj aware of the dangers of building such a magnificent structure so close to the water? It seems they were, which is why the structure was built on such a solid foundation and why the site was specifically chosen at a point on the river bank where the thrust of the water was least forceful. What they probably did not take into account was what would happen beneath the foundations on the riverside.
People who claim that the Taj is sinking say that the entire structure, foundations and all, is moving towards - and into - the river. The Indian government's attitude towards what could actually be a massive catastrophe, has been criticized in some quarters as irresponsible for failing to implement studies into the claims.
